Aromatherapy and the Energy of Change: A Single Mom’s Journey

When I moved to Spain with my kids, it wasn’t just about finding a new place to live—it was about leaving behind a life that no longer felt right. We left behind the stress of too many expenses, the constant hustle, and the endless accumulation of things we didn’t need. In exchange, we chose simplicity: daily walks by the beach, the warmth of the sun on our skin, and a slower, more intentional way of living.

Starting fresh wasn’t easy, but I knew I needed to create a space where we could thrive. For me, that meant not only changing where we lived but also shifting the energy within our home and within myself.

Finding Energy in Simplicity

Everything is energy. I’ve learned that the energy I bring into my home, and into my heart, directly impacts my kids. If I’m overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck, they feel it. That’s why I began focusing on the things that could bring positive energy into our lives—things that were simple, natural, and meaningful.

One of the biggest changes was letting go of the synthetic products that filled our home. Cleaning products, air fresheners, even perfumes—they all felt like part of the clutter we’d left behind. I started replacing them with natural alternatives, and that’s when aromatherapy became a cornerstone of our new life.

How Aromatherapy Changed Our Lives

Aromatherapy isn’t just about scents—it’s about connection. It connects us to nature, to ourselves, and to the energy we want to create in our lives. For me, as a single mom, it became a tool for grounding, calming, and creating moments of peace amidst the chaos.

Grounding Myself: Before every Zoom meeting, I spray the house with orange or sandalwood. The people on the screen can’t smell it, but I can. It calms me, grounds me, and helps me approach conversations with clarity and positivity.

Supporting My Kids: Adjusting to a new country and school wasn’t easy, but we’ve created rituals that help. Together, we make blends using lavender and chamomile to ease bedtime stress. These small steps bring them comfort and stability in this new chapter.

Learning Through Nature: Walking along the Spanish coast through the countryside, we’ve discovered jasmine bushes, orange trees, and pomegranate fields. These walks have become moments of learning—talking about the plants, their aromas, and how their essence can be used.

Exchanging Hustle for Harmony

The life we left behind was filled with things we didn’t truly need. Here in Spain, we’ve chosen to focus on what matters: simple walks by the beach, time spent together, and a home filled with love and positive energy. Aromatherapy has been a part of that shift, helping us clear away the mental and physical clutter to create space for what’s real.

Through essential oils, I’ve found a way to align our home and our lives with the energy of nature. A diffuser filled with uplifting citrus in the morning, a mist of calming lavender at night—these little rituals make a big difference. They remind me that we don’t need much to feel grounded and connected, as long as what we surround ourselves with is intentional and pure.

A Reminder for Others

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life’s hustle, start by simplifying. Walk by the beach, take in the energy of the sun, and clear out the toxins—whether they’re in your home or in your mind. Aromatherapy is one way to bring nature’s energy into your life, helping you reconnect with what matters most.

As a single mom, I’ve found strength in these small, intentional changes. They’ve helped me create a home filled with love, calm, and positivity for my kids and for myself. If I can do it, so can you. Start with one step, one drop of lavender, one mindful moment—and let it grow from there.
